A team is a named group of signed-in people. Teams belong to your liveworkspace account, so a team is the same in every liveworkspace app, and you make and run them in the Explorer, wherever it shows: the Explorer page and the editor's Explorer panel. Each member has a role, either Admin or Member, and every team gets a shared library of documents that all members can open and edit. Teams are not a paid tier: livedocuments is free and open source, so the roles are about who may manage the team, not about unlocking features.
What a team is
A team has a name (up to 80 characters) and a list of members. To create one, choose New Team, the last row of the Explorer sidebar's Spaces group (in the editor's Explorer panel, it's on the rail under Spaces): give the team a name and, if you like, an organisation, and the new team opens. While you work, you can also choose Change Folder on a document's menu, then the New Team tile: name the team, and livedocuments makes it and files the document straight into it. The person who creates a team becomes its first Admin. A team is not tied to a single owner, so it carries on even if its creator later leaves.
Teams need a signed-in account because they are keyed to your account identity and invites are matched by email. The canvas itself always works without an account, and a share link can still be handed to a guest who edits without signing in.
In the Explorer sidebar, every team you have joined is a space under Spaces, beside My Work, with New Team as the last row. livedocuments learns your teams from your sign-in, so a team you join in another liveworkspace app shows up once your sign-in next refreshes, within the hour. Open a team to see its card at the top of its view: its members and their roles, with the shared library below.
Roles and invites
There are two roles. Admins can invite people, change roles, rename the team, remove members, and delete the team, all from the team's card. Members can see the team and its members, work in the shared library, and leave. The last remaining Admin cannot leave or be demoted, so a team always has someone in charge. Promote another member first, or delete the team.
Admins add people by email address at the foot of the team's card, or share a join link with Invite by Link. When someone invites you, the invitation shows under Invites in the Explorer sidebar, with a count, where you can Accept or Decline it. See Roles and Invites for the full handshake.
The shared library
Every team has its own folder tree of documents, shown as a Team documents card on the team page. Any joined member can create, rename, duplicate, move, and delete documents there, so the work belongs to the whole team rather than to one person. Team documents also turn up in your Recent list, marked Team. See Team Shared Documents for how placement and ownership work.
Inside a team document, members can mention each other in comments and assign actions to each other.
Leaving or deleting a team
- Leaving a team (Leave Team on its card's ⋯ menu) takes you out. Documents you created in the team library stay with the team (another member, the longest-standing Admin, takes them over), and if you have one of its documents open, you lose access straight away.
- Deleting a team (Admins only, Delete Team on the same menu) removes the team and its member list for everyone. Its documents are not lost: each one moves back to the root of its owner's My Work.
Either way, you land back in My Work with a short message saying so.
If an invitation does not appear, make sure you are signed in with the same email address it was sent to. Invitations are matched by your verified account email.
