Explorer Page

One library for everything you make across liveworkspace: how the full-page Explorer is laid out, and where everything lives.

The full-page Explorer is your library: a sidebar on the left to move around, and the page you picked on the right, with its folders and items. Opening /explorer takes you to Home. (For the compact version inside the editor, see the Explorer panel.)

The Explorer is shared by every liveworkspace app. It lives once, on liveworkspace.app, and opens at livedocuments' own /explorer too, so a folder can hold a Document beside a Canvas from livediagram and a Design from livedesign. Its header shows the liveworkspace logo and then livedocuments'; click livedocuments' to go back to livedocuments. Your folders, favourites, sharing and Trash are the same whichever app you open it from.

Documents or All Apps

At the top right of most pages, a two-way switch chooses what the lists show:

  • Documents shows only livedocuments' documents.
  • All Apps shows every item from every app. Each row then carries its app's name, and the lists say "items" rather than "documents".

Coming from livedocuments, the Explorer opens on Documents, and your choice holds as you move from page to page. Opening an item from another app takes you to that app's site to open it.

Making things

New Document sits in the page header wherever a new document has an obvious home: Recent, Favourites and search results put it in My Work, outside any folder, and on Home it sits inside the search field. On My Work, inside a folder and in a team's library, the button becomes Create, offering New Document and New Folder (New Subfolder inside a folder). New always makes a document here, whichever filter is on; to make something in another app, open the Explorer from that app.

Pages that are not a place an item lives (the Inbox, the Timeline, Shared With Me and the Trash) have no New button.

Overview

  • Home is what the Explorer opens on (Home): the documents you use most, what was shared with you recently, and what other people did to your items.
  • Inbox lists the actions and comment threads waiting on you, with a badge counting the open actions assigned to you.
  • Timeline is the record of what happened to your items, your teams and your account, by day (Timeline), with a count of what is new since you last looked.
  • Shared With Me gathers every item other people have shared with you through a link, kept apart from your own library, with how many there are.

Spaces

  • My Work is your own library. Beneath it sit the folders you create; opening it lists those folders, then the items you have not filed. Its own menu (its ⋯ button or a right-click) holds New Folder and Use as Default for… (Default Folders).
  • Each team you belong to sits beside it, with its member count, and expands to the team's folders (Team Spaces).
  • Invites appears while a team invitation waits for you.
  • Manage Teams, when you are signed in, takes you to liveworkspace.app, where teams are made and run. If you are not signed in, a Sign in to access Teams card sits here instead.

More

  • Library expands to Recent (everything by when you last opened it, Recent), Favourites (what you starred) and the Image Gallery (every image you have uploaded, with where each is used, Image Gallery).
  • This Browser lists the documents saved only in this browser (Offline Mode), with how many there are, and shows only while there is at least one. They are newest first, each opening in the editor, and when you are signed in each has Sync Document to move it to your account. A document's menu offers Take Offline to do the reverse.
  • Trash holds deleted items for 30 days, ready to restore (Trash). While you drag an item, the Trash row wakes up as a place to drop it.

Which rows you expand is remembered in this browser, and opening a Library page opens the Library for you.

Moving around with the keyboard

The sidebar is a single stop when you press Tab. Then the arrow keys move up and down, Right opens a row and Left closes it (or moves to its parent), Home and End jump to the first and last rows, Enter or Space opens the row, and typing a letter jumps to the next row starting with it. On a folder, or on My Work, Shift+F10 (or the Menu key) opens its menu.

Searching

The search field at the top of the page narrows the list you are on by the titles of your items and the names of their folders. On a page with no list of its own, such as Home or the Inbox, typing opens a Search results page across the whole library. The chips under each list's title, and typed filters like made-by:ai or edited:7d, narrow it further: Search and Filter Documents covers them. Search does not look inside an item's content.

List, Card and Details

Every list of items (My Work, a folder, a team, Recent, Favourites and search results) can be shown three ways, switched with the List view, Card view and Details view buttons at the top right of the page. Cards are what you get until you choose otherwise. Shared With Me and the Trash keep a fixed list of their own. List, Card and Details Views covers them.

An item's menu

Each row and card has a ⋯ button (or right-click it) with what you can do to that item: Open, Rename, Duplicate, Change Folder, Share, Add to Favourites, History, Hide from Recent, Open Team for a team's item, Take Offline, and Delete Document to move it to the Trash. What appears depends on your access: someone who reaches an item through a link cannot rename, move, share or delete it, and its menu offers Remove from Shared With Me instead.

Duplicate makes a copy named after the original with "(copy)" on the end, every tab included, and puts it in your library.

On a phone

The sidebar folds away on a small screen. Press the menu button beside the page title (Browse sections) to open it, and pick a page to close it again.

New here? Start with My Work to learn folders, then let Home take you back to whatever you were last working on.
